TREMENDOUSLY LENGTHY HIATUS
sorry to my beloved reader(s) for my absence, i was working full time for a year and all of my creative energy was being leeched away from me into work projects. hopefully more time to work on shit. dont trust me though same shit may happen lulz
this is issue 2 of my mouse and keyboard gimp comic slop, showing my feelings on the 2025 finding that anthropic buying up rare books and shredding their spines for more reliable scans for their training data is lawful. i don’t like the common consensus either being “but at least the publisher/author gets their cut” or “yeah but they’re mass market paperbacks”.
all so some model that gets deprecated by Q4 can shit out soulless unemotional tripe that some cunt tries to sell on amazon.
i don’t give a shit about the water usage which is way lower than agriculture but i certainly give a shit about practices that mirror book burnings.
i only hope that flagrant violations of copyright law by AI companies breaks the whole system. it is not fit for purpose, destroys sampling culture in music, destroys academic collaboration, and benefits a class of middlemen like publishers and record label officials who wield copyright as a weapon against creatives. Free use is purposefully vague to dissuade satire and put fear into anybody who dares reference anything known or popular.
Aaron Swartz, like Prometheus, suffered for giving the gift of knowledge to the masses, whilst ai companies destroy knowledge for their own training archives, all with a go-ahead from copyright legislators and governments.
